Cheat Codes

The Sims has also has many cheat codes built into the game. To activate the codes window you need to press:

          [CTRL] [SHIFT] [C]

Then you can try the following codes:

ROSEBUD - Neat cheat that gives you 1000 bright, shiny simoleons!

!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!; - Each !; pair repeats the previous command. Using the ROSEBUD cheat first and then typing in a long line of !; will add many 1000's of simoleons in one go!

ROSEBUD; ; - Another variation on the Rosebud cheat... this time observe the space between the ';' characters. After typing this in, hold down the enter key and it will rapidly add simoleons to the account!

AUTONOMY (0 to 100) - This value determines how well the sims think for themselves. 50 is the default level, setting it at 100 would make the Sims autonomously do things that only a player could direct them to do normally.

BUBBLE_TWEAK (0 to -65) - This is the 'z' value to offset the thought bubbles. By default it is -65 so they don't poke through headboards!

DRAW_ALL_FRAMES (on/off)  - When set to on, will draw every frame of animation regardless of how much it slows the game.

DRAW_FLOORABLE (on/off) - On by default, this draws the grid that you see in build mode.

DRAW_ROUTES (on|off) - This is interesting.. it will display coloured dots along the Sims path so you can see where they are headed. Useful for planning the design on your home a little better.

EDIT_CHAR - This will open the edit character screen.

GRID (on/off) - Enables or disables the terrain grid.

GROW_GRASS (0 - 150) - Sets the level of 'green-ness' of all grass tiles on the lot. 150 is the maximum so if you've done some terrain work and want to get rid of the brown, set this value to 150.

HISTORY (file) - Writes out the family history of the current family. if file is not specified, the default is used which is FamilyHistory.txt

HIST_ADD - Create a new Family History.

INTERESTS - Allows you to see the interests of your sims.

MAP_EDIT (on/off) - Certain tiles on a lot are 'locked' - meaning that you cant move objects, change terrain, build on them etc. Tiles around the edge of the lot, and those containing the mailbox are examples. This cheat locks or unlocks them.

MOVE_OBJECTS (on/off) - This cheat allows you to move any object, including the Sims themselves! This can be incredibly useful when your Sims are stuck. Also handy to move cars out of the way so you can collect the mail etc.

PREPARE_LOT - Use this if you have deleted the trash can or mail box by accident to put it back.

PREVIEW_ANIMS (on/off) - When turned on, this command allows you to click on any object and preview the animation for the selected sim.

ROTATION (0) - Sets a lot's rotation to default, as seen from the Neighbourhood screen.

ROUTE_BALLOONS (on/off) - Turning this cheat on allows you to see the Sim's intermediate route balloon information.

SET_HOUR (1-24) - Change the time of day.

SIM_SPEED (-1000 to 1000) - Set the speed of the game. The bottom of the screen is like slow motion (like when you slow down a sim by hovering your mouse cursor over them). 1000 is the ultra fast mode.

SIM_LOG (begin/end) - Starts or stops the log file output. Written to SimLog.txt. The output is a tab-delimited file that shows all interactions that occurred. It shows routing time, interaction time, the change in each motive etc. Handy to see just how much time your Sims spend on the toilet!

SWEEP (on/off/none) - This displays the in-game profiler (whatever that is!). Click on the sweep window and use up/down to change events being profiles and left/right to change the milliseconds per tick.

TILE_INFO (on/off) - When set to on, you can move your mouse over a tile, click the Tile Info window and press [R] to view base object information.

VISITOR_CONTROL - This will allow you to control NPC charactors that vistit your Sims.

WATER_TOOL - This handy tool allows you to add water features to the terrain on the lot. To put land back after ruining your lot <grin> use [CTRL] and the left mouse button.

Huge Personality! [LL]

Here is a list of the potions you can make with your chemistry set. (Some of the them are very handy)

Red makes the Sim who drinks the potion to fall in love with another Sim (in the neighborhood, it doesn't necessarily work for the Sims in the same house).

Orange causes the Sim who drinks the potion to become invisible for a short period of time.

Yellow reverses the Sim's personality traits. (this potion is a great cheat if you want to make the "perfect" Sim--just create a Sim with NO personality traits and put them in front of the chemistry set. When they drink a yellow potion, all of their personality bars will be filled!)

Light Green will make your Sim sick (all mood and motive meters will go down--way down).

Green creates an evil clone of the Sim who drinks the potion.

Blue increases some of the motive meters as well as increases the mood meter of the Sim who drinks the potion. It increases different meters every time, there's no way to tell which ones will be filled, but it's fun to try.

Purple turns your Sim into FrankenSim! Everything they touch will break, which means you'll be calling the repairman as soon as your Sim turns back to normal.

White cures the Sim who drinks it if he/she is sick.

Fulfill Your Sims Needs

If your sim is feeling perhaps a little depressed here's a cool way to 'reset' them:

Use the MOVE_OBJECTS ON cheat as described above,  pick up your depressed Sim, hit the [DEL] key and flick back to live mode. Your Sim will now spawn in the centre of your screen with all of his needs stats reset to how he started the game! Be sure to save the game before you do this because any skill points gained since the last save will be wiped when you use this cheat!

Extra Bonuses

If you have built up the skills and relationships of a Sim to a high level then they will progress up the career ladder very quickly. You can use this to your advantage. Once you've peaked at your chosen career, just get fired and then re-hired. You have to start at the bottom of the ladder but because you still retain all of your skills you will storm up the career ladder (as long as you keep your Sim in a good mood). With every promotion comes a nice big fat bonus which should work out more than the money you lost by taking the lower pay.

Skip The Bills

Here's another little bug in the game that you can use to skip half of the household bills... Keep a bill unpaid until the next lot get delivered. When the mailbox flag is raised again, instruct one of your Sims to pay the first lot of bills. Off he trundles to the mailbox and whoosh, the new lot disappear!! If you keep doing this you'll only need to pay every other bill!

Get  Free Houses!

You've got a brand new family with a paltry sum of $20,000 and you want to put them in that $100,000 mansion. Here's an easy way... First locate the file that corresponds to the house in question :

   ...\The Sims\UserData\Houses\housexx.iff

There is a house.iff file for each lot on the neighbourhood, numbered accordingly. For example, house01.iff, house02.iff etc. Make a copy of the file and put it somewhere safe. Now in your neighbourhood screen, bulldoze the house and buy the empty lot with your new family. Next copy that house file back, overwriting the one that is there. This will put your mansion on the lot without the family having to pay for it! You'll need to quit the game and restart to see the new house in place.

[LL] With Living Large installed you need only flick neighbourhoods back and forth to see changes to the houses, you do NOT need to quit the game. Also note that with Living Large, if you are not in the default neighbourhood you need to locate the houses directory under the appropriately numbered UserData directory as there is one for each neighbourhood.

A Visit From Santa! [LL]

This is is not so much a cheat, but an 'easter egg'. First you need to get into the Christmas spirit - build yourself a Fireplace, buy the Christmas Tree that comes with Living Large, and serve up some yummy cookies on a nearby table. The cookies are one of Maxis' additional downloads so get those from http://www.thesims.com. Now, send your family off to sleep nice and early, around 8 or 9 pm and you never know, around midnight, you may just get a visit from Santa himself!

Make your baby grow up without helping it

Once your baby is born put a wall around it so the social services can't take it away and leave it there till it grows up and then take the walls away.

Hey DJ..

If you want new songs for your radio, you can play your own MP3 songs . There are directories in in your Sims game folder titled latin, rock, country, and classical. Just copy an MP3 and put it in one of these directories. Now you can hear your own songs while listening to your sims radio.

Aliens!

If your Sim plays with the telescope a lot they might be abducted by aliens. (it's a pretty rare occurance and it's kinda funny to watch, though) The aliens will bring your Sim back eventually. Their mood bars will be changed when they come back. (can you blame them?)

Scary Stuff

If you have Livn' Large, place the jack O'Lantern outside. While your Sims are sleeping, the grim reaper may come and ring their doorbell. Scary!

Also, if you have the campfire and your Sim has charisma or creativity better then 8, they have a chance of raising a ghost, all the other sims will run off except the sim telling the story. muahahaa!

If any of your Sims have died and you keep their urns or tombstones on the lot, you have random chances of having ghosts wander around your Sims house.

Nude Sims

Enter the cheat "move_objects on" then when your sim is in the bath go to buy mode and pick them up and put them somewhere else. When they have finished their bath they will not change in to their cloths and will walk around nude.

Hidden cartoon

When you insert the game CD-ROM and it asks whether you want to start or visit various web sites, move the pointer over the gray Maxis symbol in the bottom Left corner. It will change into colored text. Click on it to see the hidden cartoon.

Easier relationships

Create a family with a male and female adult that are of the same category (such as Virgo and Virgo) and move them into a house (or created house). Immediately after selecting live mode make them kiss approximately ten times in a row to set their relationship meter to be 100. If you continue kissing the female should ask to have a baby.

You can make a room especially for the parents with no doors. Use the move_objects on code and put the parents in a room with no doors. If you want them to have a baby, have them kiss a few times (not necessarily ten) and she will ask about the baby

Friendship/lovers

If you are trying to get a Sim to like another Sim, and you want to propose, sometimes the game will respond "I Can't think on an empty stomach". Before the Sim arrives, make a meal. If it gets late, delete the doors, then they cannot leave.

Selling the dead

This is a useful trick if you had a Sim die. When Sims die, they leave an urn or a gravestone behind them which your Sim will mourn for 24 hours. After this time you can pick it up in furnish mode and sell it. You only get about 3 to 10 Simoleans for it, but it is better than turning your garden into a cemetery.

Get outdoor items indoors

Use the following trick to place a grill, playground, basketball court, or other outdoor items inside your house. When building your house, leave part of the wall open. The CPU will consider that room as part of the outside. Place your outdoor item in the room, then close the wall. Note: This only works in one room at a time.

Buying multiple items

When you are buying chairs or other items that you require multiple numbers of, hold [Shift] to repeatedly place the item where desired without having to re-select it.

Deleting garbage and bills

Use the hand to pick up either a plate, trash, or bills. Drag it over something on which you cannot place it, such as a couch or a plant. Then, press [Esc] and the object will disappear. This is especially useful if you do not want tocommand your Sims to clean up or pay the bills.

Very big pool

Enable the rosebud or klapaucius code and repeat to get 9,999,999 simoleans. Enter the rosebud or klapaucius code again, then enable the move_objects on code. You can now turn the road into a pool.
